Start with the food and loose parts
Remove food, bins, magnets, and anything stored on top. Ask whether shelves and drawers should stay inside or be packed separately; the right answer depends on the unit and how it will be moved.
Discuss unplugging and defrosting
Ask the pickup provider when to unplug the refrigerator. Units with ice makers or water dispensers need the water supply handled safely. A freezer compartment may release meltwater, so confirm a plan for draining and drying it.
Measure the whole path
Record the refrigerator width and depth, then measure the narrowest doorway and turn. Note kitchen islands, steps, gates, elevator openings, and the distance to safe loading.
Keep the unit upright and the route clear
Do not tip or drag a large refrigerator through the home on your own. Move rugs, stools, pet gates, and fragile decor away from the path, and keep children and pets out of the work area.
