What to Confirm Before an Old Range Is Removed

Name the installation type

Say whether the range is electric or gas, freestanding or built in. Wall ovens, cooktops, and commercial equipment require a different assessment from a standard freestanding range.

Do not improvise with gas

A gas connection requires appropriate shutoff and disconnection. Confirm who is responsible before the pickup visit; do not assume the hauling crew performs plumbing or gas work.

Protect floors and nearby cabinets

Remove loose racks and pans after the unit is cool. Clear the counters and path, and mention delicate flooring or a tight gap between cabinets.

Describe the route to the vehicle

Count steps, measure doorways, and identify sharp turns. If the range sits on an upper floor, mention the stair width and landing space.
